Comparing the Role of Women in Taming of the Shrew and Twelfth Night :: comparison compare contrast essays
The Role of Women in Taming of the Shrew and Twelfth Night à à à Many critics have lambasted the female characters in Shakespeare's plays as two-dimensional and unrealistic portrayals of subservient women.à Others have asserted that the roles of women in his plays were prominent for the time and culture that he lived in.à Two works, Taming of the Shrew, and Twelfth Night, stand out particularly well in regards to Shakespeare's use of female characters.à After examining these two plays, one will see that Shakespeare, though conforming to contemporary attitudes of women, circumvented them by creating resolute female characters with a strong sense of self.à à à à à à à à à à à à à The Taming of the Shrew is one of Shakespeare's most famous plays, and has weathered well into our modern era with adaptations into popular television series such as Moonlighting.à For all the praises it has garnered throughout the centuries, it is curious to note that many have considered it to be one of his most controversial in his treatment of women.à à The "taming" of Katherine has been contended as being excessively cruel by many writers and critics of the modern era.à George Bernard Shaw himself pressed for its banning during the 19th century (Peralta).à The subservience of Katherine has been labeled as barbaric, antiquated, and generally demeaning.à à The play centers on her and her lack of suitors.à It establishes in the first act her shrewish demeanor and its repercussions on her family.à It is only with the introduction of the witty Petruchio as her suitor, that one begins to see an evolution in her char acter.à à Through an elaborate charade of humiliating behavior, Petruchio humbles her and by the end of the play, she will instruct other women on the nature of being a good and dutiful wife. à à à à à à à à à à à à In direct contrast to Shrew, is Twelfth Night, whose main female protagonist is by far the strongest character in the play.à The main character Viola, has been stranded in a foreign land and adopts the identity of her brother so that she might live independently without a husband or guardian.à She serves as a courtier to a young, lovesick nobleman named Orsino.à Throughout the play she plays as a go-between for him to the woman he loves.à In the course of her service, she falls in love with him.à Only at the end, does she renounce her male identity and declares her love for him.

Problems teenagers face Essay
Acquiring an Identity and establishing self-esteem are two of the biggest obstacles that teenagers face. As children mature, they view themselves in more complicated ways. By the time they mature into teenagers they are able to give detailed psychological descriptions of themselves. Consequently, they become more interested in understanding their own personalities and why they behave the way they do. During the period of adolescence, feelings towards oneself change. Nonetheless, as individuals become more and more confident their self esteem increases. Most teenagers go through periods when they are unsure of who they truly are. When they reach adulthood it is more likely that these young adults have a better sense of their real personality then someone who didnââ¬â¢t go through this struggle. This is mostly do to the fact that if you have this problem at some point you tend to study who you really are and in the end know yourself better. A child who is popular is much less likely to go through this issue. As children get older and begin high school there is an increased importance of friends. As teenagers begin trusting and telling secrets to their friends, their relationship gains a sense of loyalty and obligation. When a teenagers finds him or herself thinking like a someone else it develops into a friendship. If a strong bond occurs with someone normally of the opposite sex dating might occur. Dating is a very loose word which can mean many different things. It can mean going out in a group to have fun, going out in a group to get to know each other, or just two people going out to see a movie. After feelings have grown between two people they sometimes experiment sexually with each other. Most teenagersââ¬â¢ first practice with sex does not involve another person. Many young adults have sexually related fantasies about someone they know (or someone they donââ¬â¢t know for that matter). It is also fairly common for adolescents to masturbate. When many adolescents have reached high school, they have had some experience with intimate sexual contact, such as kissing, caressing, or sexual intercourse. In the 80ââ¬â¢s it was common to become sexually active young, however now it seems as though that rate is slowing down. Judaism and many other religions look down on sexual activity or anything of that nature before marriage. Sexuality is only one of the main issues that high-schoolers face. Another main concern in a teenagerââ¬â¢s life is school. The school day and the school atmosphere is much more treacherous then it was in elementary school. When they were younger children very few classrooms and they were ââ¬Å"taken care ofâ⬠by one or two teachers. In high school, children tend to have a different teacher for each subject. This puts a huge strain on kids. Also, in elementary school, children work with their teachers all day. Once they are in Junior high they need to learn how to manage their time alone. This can put a huge dent in people self esteem. Because they are so stresses their interest in other things may decline which only makes the situation worse. The only way to try to avoid this is to prepare ahead of time for it. That way you will expect it and be ready for the change. Another huge problem that teenagers face is alcohol and drug abuse. Alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana are big issues in many schools. Adolescents tend to experiment to fit in with their friends. Teenagers may see smoking or drinking a gateway to popularity. There are many more reasons as to why children try drugs, alcohol, and cigarrettes, but that is one of the immense reasons Establishing a sexual identity is another huge concern in the eyes of teenagers. Sexual identity mainly means who you are attracted to (Same/Opposite sex). People whose own sex appeals to them are called homosexuals/lesbian. People who are attracted to the opposite sex are called heterosexual. When most children enter high school they are spending most of their time with the same sex. An outcome to this would be that many adolescents begin to experience sexual feelings before they come close to anyone of theà opposite sex. This only means that their sexual development is beyond their social development. This isnââ¬â¢t always an obstacle but it is something all maturing teenagers face. Eating disorders is one of the most serious obstacles that teenagers face. Some adolescents, especially females, become so concerned about weight and their looks that they take drastic and dangerous measures to remain thin. The most common practice of this is causing yourself to throw up.This is called bulimia. Young women with a disorder called anorexia nervosa starve themselves to keep their weight low. These people view themselves as overweight when they are actually thin. Bulimia and anorexia nervosa are uncommon until one is a teenager and after one is 21. Their are many issues that teenagers face and they all, in one way or another, effect that childââ¬â¢s self esteem. Almost every aspect of maturing for a teenager can cause stress. It is a very sensitive and important time for all human beings.Every year more and more is being done to prevent the stress we face but there is still much more work to be done.

Internal External Strategies Essay
Tradeoffs between an internal and external growth strategy goes together in an organization. The internal organization which focuses on the internal growth of the firm look upon the comforts for the internal people and the facilities are provided internally for the employees. The employees are boosted up and they are encouraged from giving them bonus, over time etc. the internal growth of an organization helps it to groom itself completely but this sets a backward area. The internal growth comprises on the employees moral, the expansion of the organization, more opportunities are overwhelmed for the employees and they are trained in such a manner that they become sharp and confident and boast them in an orderly manner. As a result only the internal growth is focused and the external has to go through a tough time as the only focus becomes the internal growth and the cost is ignored. The production cost gets higher and the demand is affected which leads to a decrease in the sale of goods in the market (Clare & Stutely, 1995). On the other hand when the external growth is focused the budget and the cost are kept in view and the people are mainly focused on the output in the market. Cost cutting is observed and this even leads to the suspension of employees from their job. The cost of the product is kept in view and then decisions are taken to avoid any kind of disturbance in the demand of the product. This creates misconception among the employees and the owners and a huge gap is created among relations. Employees are not focused and not considered for increment. These are the tradeoffs between external and internal growth strategy (Triant, 2006). In international strategy external growth is focused as it is more profitable for them. In international trade only the cost and the demand is focused. Profit is only the motive of the international traders and therefore external trade strategy is the best approach.

Exhibition Review
Exhibition Review Introduction In this article, I will examine an ongoing exhibition, After Photoshop, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The exhibition has been running since September 25th, last year and will be closed on May 27th this year. The subs There are some photographs that I find quite appealing. One of them is titled 110 Junction. In this photo, a car is placed about 4 meters above a street and appears to be either in hot pursuit of another car not seen or pursued by other car/s that is/are not seen. This photo is dated 2010 and has been taken and manipulated using Photoshop software by Matthew Porter. There are a number of things which I like about the ingenuity displayed in this photograph ââ¬â 110 Junction. First, the artist must have taken time to find the correct place on the road that would accommodate this manipulation. As we know, cars do not fly, at whatever speed they might be, when the road is flat. The flying action comes when a car at great speed is going over a hump. I al so like the fact that this artist has gone for a very huge hump that beautifully displays proportionality with the height above the road that the car is flying. It would not have made any sense if the car had been placed at this height above a flat road or over a very small bump. I greatly admire the angle at which the artist placed the car. It is right above the road moving in the correct direction as it could have if it was on the road. I find it humorous that the artist was not in the mood to violate traffic rules because, either intentionally or by chance, he took the original photograph when the green lights were on. Another photograph I find extremely nice to view is an untitled photograph of a young girl with the eyes of a puppy. It is not easy to notice that the eyes are not hers. The artist who created this photograph, Rebenstein, was airing his views on the debate on interspecies tissues grafting. This photograph speaks to us in volumes asking many questions. It helps us t o imagine how it could be to harvest organs for human beings from animals. It raises ethical questions and springs up animals welfare feelings. The photograph is an open invitation for a discourse about the future of human cloning. It scares me to imagine such a beautiful young girl in a puppyââ¬â¢s eyes ââ¬â but the photo seems to be saying: ââ¬Ëthis is the futureââ¬â¢.Advertising Looking for essay on art and design? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More The Exhibition Organization The organization of exhibition is done well. The photographs have no particular order except of those that are from the same artists and particularly on the same theme. Such photographs are placed together. The photos are represented in Gallery 851 of the Metropolitan Museum Art. They are well lit and placed on walls painted with white paint. The exhibition room is spacious and lit from the roof. Overall Evaluation In general, the exhibition is a great work done by the Metropolitan museum. I find it quite appealing, especially in the manner in which photography is used to speak out our hopes and fears. The ability of Photoshop Software is shown and this exhibition indicates that photography can be used as a ground of communication on serious issues affecting our society. The combination of humor and seriousness in one photograph provides a viewer with a thoughtful and entertaining perception. I greatly invite any person wishing to have a pensive viewing to find the time for this exhibition. As already noted above, it is running up to May 27th this year.

Critically analyse and assess the trend towards globalization of the Assignment
Critically analyse and assess the trend towards globalization of the banking system and its impact on domestic banks. Identify a - Assignment Example The changes include demands from new trends as well as components within the internal organization that are being redefined. Definition of Research Problem The concept of banking is one which is based on national needs, as well as regional elements which are associated with various groups of individuals. However, globalization is beginning to change the internal and external environment while altering products and services offered by those who are a part of banking. This is now leading to several problems, specifically because of the different needs in various parts of the world. Currency exchanges, cost of living relationships, lending channels and basic operations are now being altered, specifically because of needs that are associated with different regions of the globe. The changes are now leading to alterations in market value and many banks which are either making changes domestically or which are becoming dependent on foreign investments and stocks for new opportunities with b anking (Cetorelli, Goldberg, 2008: 14). The research problem defines the problems which are occurring with global transfers as well as how this is redefining the services, products and transfers that are within various banking systems. Literature Review The concept of global banking is one which is now only beginning to surface as a way to work with the corporation of banking systems. In the past, there were basic services and products which were offered specific to the currency of a location. The services and products combined attributes of banking according to oneââ¬â¢s culture, capital flows and the financial firms within a specific country. The changes today are now based on an expansion of services and products to help nations in various regions across the world while offering new products and services for changes with global banking. The concept of global banking systems includes the options of lower cost of capital, improved allocation and investments with property rights and institutions. The banking systems are incorporating micro-financing as well as basic services and products which can transfer across borders. Many in other countries are using this as one of the first methods for financing within the country (Mishkin, 2008: 135). The main capabilities for banking systems to establish at a global level come from the enhanced technology which doesnââ¬â¢t define the borders or other applications which are a part of the system. Information processing, telecommunications and other options are providing banks with new alternatives for going overseas. This is combined with the investment opportunities which are continuing to arise for those that are in the different countries. The financial technologies are one of the investments that are leading the way with those who are looking at global expansion from domestic relationships. However, this also limits the products and services which are available and defines a different type of system and sets of services which can be available overseas. Most that are transitioning into this are still experiencing barriers for entry with the government as well as with different needs that are from the technology and the expectations within a given country (Berger, 2007: 1955). Limitations to the Banking System While there are specific aspects that are related to technology, most are finding that this transition is one which is too new to offer complete security

THE COLLAPSE OF THE HALIFAX BANK OF SCOTLAND, AND THE SUBSEQUENT Essay
THE COLLAPSE OF THE HALIFAX BANK OF SCOTLAND, AND THE SUBSEQUENT RESPONSE OF THE UK AUTHORITIES - Essay Example HBOS formation took place in the year 2001 as a causal resulting from the merger of both Halifax and the Bank of Scotland. The formerââ¬â¢s position towards mortgages and the latterââ¬â¢s bravery in corporate lending that was to create a balanced Big Five Bank. In the year 2001, it had a total assets summing to 275 billion pounds, much bigger than that of its ultimate rescuer Lloyds and approximately three-quarters as big as Barclays and the Royal Bank of Scotland (Oââ¬â¢sullivan & Kinsella 2013, p. 9). This report will highlight the four areas in which this new banking force sowed its destruction seeds. These four areas include aggressive expansion; deluded management; failure of internal controls; and reluctance to heed to the warnings of the FSA, and even allowing the shortcomings of the regulator. The key to the growth of HBOS, as per the findings of the commission, was in accepting of more risks across all the division of the group. The strategy was to ensure a new cultures in the higher echelon of the banking system. This culture was brash and underpinned by the belief that the growing market shares were as a result of a special skills category possessed by the HBOS and lacking to the competitors. The culture effects became even more corrosive when joined with the absence of corporate selfââ¬âknowledge within the organization top as time elapsed. Tellingly, in October 2007, as the alarm bells rung in banks all over the world, Cumming, the head of HBOS debt-fuelled corporate wing, remarked that people appeared to lose their nerves. They were panicking even to the days testing property environment (Veron 2010, p. 113). Cummingââ¬â¢s corporate division ended up with an impairment of 25 billion pounds, an equivalent to the 20pc of its loan book in 2008, and away out of balance with rival banks. But while the corporate book holes hastened, the rescue by the taxpayers and
